Interlaced scanning is a technique that enhances the quality of images displayed on screens by transmitting two fields of lines alternatively. In this method, the screen is refreshed in two passes: the first pass captures all the odd-numbered scan lines (the first field), and the second pass captures all the even-numbered scan lines (the second field). This approach allows for smoother motion representation and better utilization of the available bandwidth because it effectively doubles the perceived frame rate without requiring twice the amount of data to be transmitted at any given time.

The interlacing technique reduces flicker and increases the perception of motion fluidity, which was particularly beneficial in older television technologies. By alternating the display of lines, interlaced scanning can create a more detailed image with less noticeable motion blur compared to other techniques that do not separate fields in this way.
